Victorian Cabochon Ruby & Old Cut Diamond Snake Necklace, circa 1860
Impressive and daring. This quite exceptional snake pendant is bursting with detail and quality. Set with a pair of long oval cabochon rubies and a total of six old cut diamonds of a variety of shapes: round, cushion, oval and pear. The incredible etching and detail on the head of the snake which also features a hinged, openable, jaw. The coiled body of the snake features a cuff-clasp near the tail, meaning this can be worn at varying lengths.
Cut – Long oval cabochon rubies. The diamonds are old mine / miner cuts in a number of different shapes; round, cushion, oval and pear.
Clarity – The diamond are VS1 to VS2. The rubies are eye-clean.
Carat – The approximate ruby weight is 1.00 carat, with an estimated total diamond weight of 1.80 carat.
Circa – 1860.
Measurements – The necklace is 18 inches. The snake’s head is 4cm long by 1.8cm wide.
Metal – 18k gold. The head is marked.
