Art Deco 0.85 Carat Synthetic Sapphire & Diamond Pendant, circa 1935

An unbelievably pretty vintage sapphire pendant. At the centre is baguette cut sapphire weighing approximately 0.75 carat which displays a rich, deep blue, with a pair of smaller baguette cut sapphires either side and six small rose cut diamonds set in the vented and milgrained platinum surround. A long, spear-shaped white gold connecting bar set with one rose cut at the bottom and a rubover set rose cut diamond at the top, links to the concealed bale.

Synthetic sapphires were at the cutting edge of technology at the beginning of the twentieth century and, at the time, were rarer and more valuable than natural sapphires.

Cut – Baguette cut sapphires and rose cut diamonds.

Carat – The centre sapphire is approximately 0.75 carat, with two approximate 0.05 carat sapphires either side.

Diamonds – The eight rose cut diamonds have a combined approximate weight of 0.08 carat. J colour, SI1 clarity.

Circa – 1935.

Measurements – The sapphire is approximately 12.2 x 8.6mm. The pendant, not including the bale, is approximately 23 x 16.2mm.

Metal – 18k white gold and platinum. French hallmarks.
