Art Deco “Wings” Diamond Brooch, 18k Gold, circa 1920
The workmanship here is something to behold. The delicately hand carved wings are topped each side by a line of 24 graduated diamonds, centred with a really lovely pink tourmaline. As is common is Art Deco jewellery, this is clearly influenced by ancient Egyptian art. The makers initials – ET – are visble on the pin.
Cut – An oval cut pink tourmaline and old cut diamonds.
Clarity – The diamonds are SI
Carat – There are a 48 diamond here, with a total estimated carat weight of 1.00
Circa – 1920.
Condition – Somewhere down the line, this has had some major repairs. Solder marks are clearly visible where the wings attach to the pink tourmaline. A scratch is evident on the back where the brooches gold content has been checked.
Measurements – 75mm from wing tip to wing tip. The tourmaline measures 11.5mm by 8.mm
Weight – 7.8 grams
Metal – Tests as 18ct gold.
