Victorian 10.79 Carat Natural Ceylon Sapphire Brooch / Pendant, circa 1890
A natural Ceylon sapphire brooch of exceptional quality. The sapphire – certified as natural, unheated and originating from Ceylon – displays a bright, aegean blue. The cushion shaped stone is claw set within a surround of ten closed-back rose cut diamonds, with a further diamond set at the top with scrolling “S” shaped detailing either side. A further three diamonds are set in the articulated bottom drop.
Primarily a brooch, a concealed bale allows this to be worn as a pendant if you prefer.
Accompanied by a sapphire report from Gemmological Certification Services (GCS) stating the sapphire shows no indication of heating, and is Sri Lankan (Ceylon) in origin.
Cut – Cushion cut sapphire and rose cut diamonds.
Carat – The sapphire is a known 10.79 carat. The total approximate diamond weight is 0.42 carat.
Circa – 1890.
Measurements – The sapphire is 13.04 x 8.88mm. From top to bottom the brooch is 43mm and 22mm wide.
Metal – 18k gold. Tested.
