Victorian Opal & Old Cut Diamond Cluster Pendant, circa 1890
Desperately beautiful. The central oval cabochon opal is, unusually, open backed – and displays a lively play reds and greens. Twelve good sized old cut diamonds set in silver encircle the opal and is linked, via a rose cut diamond set knife shaped hoop to a rose gold chain. Exquisite and timelessly stylish.
Cut – Oval cabochon opal with old mine / miner cut diamonds. The four diamonds in the hoop are rose cuts.
Colour – Diamond are G.
Clarity – The diamond are VS1 to VS2
Carat – The opal is approximately 2.00 carat. Each of the 12 diamonds is estimated at 0.15 carat, so an estimated 1.80 total carat weight.
Circa – 1890.
Measurements – The cluster is 17.6mm by 20mm. The pendant is, including the hoop, is 37mm long. The chain is 17 inches long.
Metal – The diamonds are set in silver. The back of the pendant and the hoop are 9 carat gold. The chain (almost certainly not original) is 18k rose gold. Tested.
