Victorian Portrait Brooch, circa 1900
A stunningly well crafted Victorian portrait brooch depicting a young, pretty, and presumably very important young lady. The circular portrait is mounted on 18k yellow gold and sits within a gloriously ornate surround featuring twenty-two rose cut diamonds, a pair of sapphire and four rubies, with silver crown detailing and a pair of 15k yellow gold bows. A beautiful, intricate and rare piece.
Cut – The diamonds are rose cuts. The sapphires are round cuts. The rubies are round cuts and square cuts.
Colour – The diamonds range from H to I.
Clarity – All the stones are clean to the naked eye.
Carat – A total approximate diamond weight of 0.19 carat, with approximately 0.04 carat sapphire and approximate 0.10 carat of rubies.
Circa – 1900.
Measurements – The brooch is 49 x 42.75mm.
Metal – The back of the portrait is 18k gold. The gold accents on the front are 15k gold. The white / oxidised parts of the brooch are silver. The metals tested.
