Art Deco Old Cut Diamond & Sapphire Egyptian Revival Ring, French, circa 1925

The opening of Tutankhamen’s tomb in 1922 inspired jewellery design throughout the Art Deco period, and this quite wonderful and bold ring is a fine example of what came to be called the Egyptian revival. Centred by a glowingly white old mine cut set in a square collet which contrasts with the sweeping lines of the tapered baguette sapphires. A ring that remains radical and eye-catching, this fine piece is a collector’s dream.

Cut – Old mine cut in the centre, with eight-cut diamonds at the edges. The sapphires are tapered baguettes

Colour – All the diamonds are H to I. The sapphires are light medium blue.

Clarity – The centre diamond is VS2. The outer diamonds are SI1.

Carat – The central diamond is 0.90 carat, with a further estimated 0.51 carat around the edges. Total sapphire weight is approximately 4.34 carat.

Circa – 1925.

Measurements – From edge of sapphire to edge of sapphire measures 18mm. The ring is 22mm wide at the widest point and sits 9mm from the finger.

Metal – 18k rose gold. The main diamond is set in platinum. French hallmarks.
